How to Publish with KDP: Part Nine

Hello SErs. Harmony here.  As promised, here is  part nine in the post series dedicated to taking a step-by-step look at how to get your finished manuscript from your computer and on sale on Amazon in both ebook and paperback.

So, here’s Part Nine: An overview of your KDP Dashboard.

So, after my last post ( HERE), you now have a KDP account set up. Today, we’re taking a look at what your KDP dashboard looks like, and what the different options offer. Below is an image of your dashboard area >

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the very top of the page, you will see four options … Your Account, which we looked at in part eight, … English, which allows you to choose your screen language, … Help, in case you need further assistance on what to do, .. and Sign Out, for security, I would recommend always signing out once you have finished your KDP tasks.

On the level below, you will see a further four options … Bookshelf, which is where you are now, … Reports, which take you to your sales and Kindle Unlimited Pages read, etc., … Community, which is another place you can get help and advice, … and, finally, KDP Select, which allows you to set up your opt in/out options for the KDP select program.

The next level, about moving existing books from Createspace, you can ignore. This is for authors who published a while ago when Createspace was still a separate entity from Amazon. Nowadays, you will do all your publishing (both eBook and paperback) within your KDP dashboard for any books you want to sell via Amazon.

The level beneath that is where you can add a new book (or books). You have both eBook and paperback options here. Later posts will take you through uploading your files for both digital and print books.

And below all of that, you have a list of books that you’ve submitted for publishing already. Here, Amazon identifies which titles are  on live sale, which are in draft form, and which are under review.

To the far right of each book, you are presented with several options >>>

  1. [ebook] Promote and Advertise or [paperback] Order Author Print Copies.
  2. (by hovering over the ‘…’ to the far right) Edit [eBook] [print book] details
  3. Edit [eBook] [print book] Content
  4. Edit [eBook] [print book] pricing
  5. [eBook] KDP Select Info or [paperback] Request Printed Proofs
  6. Promote and Advertise
  7. Add X-Ray
  8. Unpublish [eBook] [print book]
  9. Unlink Books

The print book has an extra option before ‘Promote and Advertise’ … ‘Order Author Copies.’
