Hello, SE Readers. Can you believe we’re already in March? And since it’s the second Frida of the month, it’s book share Friday.
I don’t know about you, but my “to be read” list seems to get longer and longer. I just can’t seem to resist buying new books. Finding time to read them is another matter. Therefore, I’m going back a couple of years in my archives for today’s post.
I first heard of Dan Walsh through a Book Bub email. He had written a WWII era novel set during the Christmas season. I purchased and read the book. When Night Comes is Dan’s first suspense novel, and it’s the first of three in his Jack Turner series.
Blurb:
Jack Turner comes back to Culpepper to give a series of lectures for his old history professor. Within days, he starts having bizarre experiences at night. Like he’s traveling back in time, experiencing the epic events in his lectures firsthand. He has no control over these experiences and can’t make them stop.
Joe Boyd thought he’d left big city crime back in Pittsburgh when he took a detective job in Culpepper, Georgia, a sleepy southern college town. His peaceful life ends when two students turn up dead in two weeks. The coroner is saying natural causes, but something doesn’t add up.
Rachel Cook, a teaching assistant at Culpepper, can’t believe Jack is back in her life again. She’s had a crush on him since she was fourteen, but Jack never knew. He instantly seems attracted to her, but she can tell…something is deeply troubling him.
Watching all this from a distance is Nigel Avery. He’s certain this experiment is about to unravel. It will be his job to tie up all the loose ends.
The idea of time travel has always intrigued me, so I purchased a copy of this book. It’s a quick, easy read but kept me interested throughout the book. I’ve also read the second in the series Remembering Dresden. (The third, Unintended Consequences, is in my TBR list.)
Although listed in religious and inspirational fiction, the book isn’t overtly Christian. Nor is Remembering Dresden. I tend to stay away from books that get too “preachy,” and I enjoyed both books. One of these days, I’ll get around to reading the third of the series.
When I have more time…

There’s a time travel series running on TV that I’m enjoying- Timeless. It’s filled with a great cast of characters and a believable storyline.
When a group with nefarious intentions attempts to change the world as we know it by altering the past, Lucy, a historian, Wyatt, a soldier, and Rufus, a scientist, unite to form an unlikely partnership, traveling through time to save history.
When Night Comes sounds interesting, I’ll look it up!

Sounds interesting, Jacquie! There is a movie called The Final Countdown. It was filmed on the USS Nimitz and the ship goes through a storm and ends up back in December 1941 just before Pearl Harbor. They have the chance to change history. A friend of ours was in the Navy and served on the Nimitz during filming. He’s in a scene.

I like time travel and I like suspense, so this may find its way on my TBR. Like you, I can’t resist buying books, even though I already have an overwhelming backlog. I ‘m actually planning on hitting my local bookstore today to scope out two titles already on my radar.
Nice share, Joan. I love the title and the cover on this one, too!
