Happy Friday, Story Empire readers! We’re wrapping up another busy week (and month) here at Story Empire. We would like to thank everyone who visited us on the RRBC Springtime Book and Blog Party yesterday!
But now it’s time to share some of our favorite links we’ve found around the Internet pertaining to writing, marketing, and promotion. P. H. shared a great video compilation and post this week of the struggles of book revisions, and Craig delved into incorporating memories in fiction. Check those posts out if you missed them, and peruse the other links we found for you. So without further ado…
- Word Count (what makes a short story/novella/novel)
- Crafting Just Endings (Pretty in Pink as a case study… and a mention of Casablanca, so who can skip this post?)
- Another Tool to Develop Characters (This is a great idea…plus case studies!)
- Writer’s Detective (A great site for those who write crime fiction. Sign up for Adam’s weekly newsletter, All Points Bulletin.)
- Character Pitfalls (5 examples plus suggestions to avoid them)
- Fiction Analysis (theme and construction using Charlotte’s Web)
- Voice (using your strengths and flaws to develop your writing voice)
- Sensory Language (mentions nonfiction, but useful in fiction, too)
- Adjectives (100 descriptors—brilliant and not overused)
- BookBub Subscriber Stats (infographic)
- Crime Lab Details (12 points for writing realistic crime fiction)
- Promoting Books on Facebook (14 tips)
- Kindle Unlimited (data)
- Should You Produce Your Books in Audio (part one)
- How to Promote Your Book (on a tight budget)
A lovely list of links to useful posts. Shared on twitter @bakeandwrite.

Glad you find them useful, Julie. I always find things that I don’t know, since the six of us follow different sites. Thanks for the visit!

AAAkkk! Word count again. Something I always struggle with, so it was the first one I read. Off to more work seminars, so I’ll have to catch the rest later.

I budgeted my WIP (with outline) to be 90,000 words. I completed the draft at over 98,000 and I’ve added more since I started editing. I struggle with word count, too.

That’s about how I started out. These days, I always come up short.

I usually come out on the lower end because I tend to skip description that needs to be added later.

Been dealing with a not-so-well hubster and missed some of these. But… that’s what insomnia is for! 😁 Thanks!
